The player count for Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 is decreasing at a concerning rate. Fans were initially excited for the launch of the revamped battle royale game, expecting an improved experience after the success of Verdansk and the original Warzone. Unfortunately, many players have found that the game is plagued with bugs and issues that hinder gameplay. The looting system is overly complicated and the A.I. strongholds are seen as unnecessary by many players. Additionally, the sound of footsteps is excessively loud, making it difficult for players to stealthily move around the map. The large map of Al Mazrah has also led to long and unenjoyable games for many players, as it promotes a camping and undesirable playstyle.
Data from SteamCharts reveals that the number of players on Warzone 2 has dropped dramatically in the months following its launch. The peak player count was 488,897 players on November 19th, the first Saturday after the game's release. As time progressed, the numbers steadily dropped for the months of December and January. The peak for December was just above 300,000 players and in the first two weeks of January, the peak barely reached 160,000 players, with an average player count of around 120,000 players.
According to a report from CharlieIntel, it can be assumed that the dip in players extends to other platforms as well. Players can only hope that Warzone 2 Season 2 brings changes that will encourage players to return to the game. It is uncertain what specific changes will be made, but many hope that the developers will address the issues and bugs that are causing players to leave the game. Only time will tell if Warzone 2 can regain its popularity and player count.
