The End of an Era: Xbox 360 Store to Shut Down in July 2024, But Your Games Live On

It's hard to believe that this November, the Xbox 360 will celebrate its 18th birthday. For many, this console was their introduction to the world of gaming, allowing them to forge connections with friends globally. Classics like Kameo, Gears of War, and Fable 2 have left an indelible mark on the hearts of gamers. And while the console has aged, the passion for these games remains, whether played on the original Xbox 360 or through Backward Compatibility on newer devices.

However, as we approach 2024, there's an important update for the Xbox 360 community:

Starting July 29, 2024, the Xbox 360 Store will no longer support new game, DLC, or other entertainment content purchases. This also means the Microsoft Movies & TV app will cease to function on the Xbox 360, rendering TV and movie content inaccessible after this date.

Until then, the Xbox 360 Store and Xbox 360 Marketplace will continue to operate as usual, allowing game and DLC purchases.

The silver lining? This change won't impact your existing Xbox 360 games or DLC. You can still enjoy them on the Xbox 360, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S through backward compatibility.

The gaming landscape has transformed since the Xbox 360's 2005 debut. While we're steering our focus towards the Xbox Series X|S, our dedication to ensuring you can play your purchased content remains unwavering. Xbox 360 gameplay will continue to be supported, and you can always reconnect with your favorite titles and friends.

FAQs on the Upcoming Changes:

Absolutely! Whether you own a digital copy or a physical disc, your games are here to stay. Deleted a game? No worries, you can re-download it anytime.

2. What about online multiplayer on the Xbox network?

You can still enjoy multiplayer games and connect with friends post-July 2024, provided the game's publisher maintains the online servers. Plus, your game progress and cloud saves will seamlessly transfer to Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S.

3. What about Xbox 360 backward-compatible titles?

No changes here! Post-July 29, 2024, you can still buy and play backward-compatible Xbox 360 and Original Xbox games and DLC on newer consoles and Xbox.com. And for an enhanced experience on Xbox Series X|S, many titles come with FPS Boost, Auto HDR, and reduced loading times.

Your purchased content will be available on Windows devices (Windows 10 or later), Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S via the Microsoft Movies & TV app. Additionally, eligible content can be streamed and downloaded via the Movies Anywhere app or website. More details can be found on Movies Anywhere on Microsoft Movies & TV.
