Overwatch 2 to Introduce New and Returning Game Modes in 2023

Blizzard's Overwatch 2 is set to receive a plethora of new game modes in 2023, both new and returning, according to an interview with game director Aaron Keller. Fans of the popular first-person shooter have been eagerly awaiting updates and new content for the sequel, and it seems that Keller and the development team at Blizzard have been listening.

Keller did not provide any specific details about which game modes will be returning, but he did hint at the possibility of 6v6, a feature that was dropped from the original Overwatch. Currently, the closest players can get to the original Overwatch experience is playing an Assault map in Arcade mode, but this still restricts players to a team of five.

In addition to new and returning game modes, Keller also revealed that Overwatch 2 players can expect "a lot more" events and maps in the coming year. The main draw for many players, however, will likely be the new ways to play, and Keller stated that there will be "several new and returning game modes" in 2023.

One of these new modes will be entirely new and unlike anything seen in either Overwatch game so far, according to Keller. He expressed excitement at the prospect of revealing more information about this new mode at a later date.

While Overwatch 2 has had some new content, such as the introduction of new characters Junker Queen, Sojourn, Kiriko and Ramattra, as well as a new 5v5 playstyle, much of it has been recycled from the original Overwatch. These new game modes will be a welcome addition to the game and should tide players over until the main selling point of Overwatch 2, the PvE story mode, is released later in 2023.

Keller also mentioned that the development of the PvE story mode is taking longer than expected and that it will be released gradually throughout the year. Despite this, he remains optimistic about the future of Overwatch 2 and is confident that players will be pleased with the new content and game modes on the horizon.

Overall, it's exciting to see that Blizzard is continuing to invest in Overwatch 2 and that the development team is listening to player feedback. The introduction of new and returning game modes, along with more events and maps, should keep players engaged and provide a fresh experience for both new and returning players. Keep an eye out for more information about these new game modes in the coming months.
